  7.     Opulent and decayed and lone
  8.     Upon oblivion's closer shore,
  9.     But in some daemon-stirred unrest
  10.  
  11.     Departing thence, sojourn awhile
  12.     By fevered fens and driven seas,
  13.     Or in the moil of towns unclean
  14.     And fumes of toiling titan fires;
  15.  
  16.     Or climb the sharpened mountain-horns
  17.     To see earth's kingdoms gleam afar,
  18.     Litters with promise and mirage
  19.     Beneath a mistless diamond vault;
  20.  
  21.     Or, pausing in Mylitta's vales
  22.     At yonic altars carved to sin,
  23.     Purchase the ancient carnal kiss
  24.     Forewritten on the lips of clay:-
  25.  
  26.     Know surely that ye shall return
  27.     Into the shadow-land ye left,
  28.     And draw again your languored breath
  29.     Where breathe the poppies of the dusk.
